Most people walk into an infrared sauna for the first time and have the same reaction: it’s warm, not overwhelming. Nothing like the wall of heat that hits you in a traditional steam room. You sit down, the warmth settles around you, and within a few minutes something starts to shift — a kind of deep physical ease that is hard to describe until you’ve felt it.
At Bayside Endermologie, our Infra-Red Sauna is one of the treatments clients return to most consistently. Not because it’s dramatic. Because it works quietly, and they feel the difference.
Here’s what it actually is, how it works, and what you can expect if you book a session at our Beaumaris clinic.
Infrared sauna versus a traditional sauna — what’s the difference?
A traditional sauna heats the air around you. The ambient temperature climbs to somewhere between 80°C and 100°C, and your body responds to that hot environment by sweating and raising your core temperature. It works, but for many people the intensity is difficult to tolerate for long. The heat can feel suffocating rather than relaxing.
An infrared sauna works differently. Instead of heating the air, infrared light heats your body directly. The cabin itself sits at a much lower ambient temperature, typically around 45°C to 55°C, which most people find far more comfortable to sit in for a sustained period. The infrared wavelengths penetrate below the skin surface, warming the body from within rather than baking it from outside.
The result is a session that many clients find easier to settle into, stay present for, and actually enjoy.
How infrared light works
Infrared light sits just beyond the visible spectrum — you can’t see it, but you can feel it as radiant warmth. It’s the same kind of gentle heat you feel from sunlight on your skin on a cool day, without the UV exposure.
There are three types used in infrared saunas: near, mid, and far infrared. Far infrared is the most commonly used in full-spectrum cabin saunas. It has a longer wavelength that penetrates tissue more deeply than surface-level heat. This is what allows the body to warm up and respond. Increased circulation, perspiration, and a sense of physical relaxation can follow at a much lower ambient temperature than a traditional sauna requires.
It is worth being clear: infrared sauna is a wellness tool, not a medical treatment. We don’t use language like “heals” or “cures” because that’s not how we think about it. What we can say is what our clients tell us — and we’ll get to that.
What a session looks like at our Beaumaris clinic
A typical Infra-Red Sauna session at Bayside Endermologie runs for around 30 to 45 minutes. Kristina will confirm the right duration for you when you come in. It depends on what you’re looking for and how your body responds.
Before your session:
- Arrive well hydrated. Drink water before you come in, and we’ll have water available during your session.
- Wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting warm in, or bring a swimsuit. A towel to sit on is provided.
- Avoid heavy meals in the hour before your session.
During the session, you simply sit inside the cabin as the infrared heat builds. Most clients spend the time resting, listening to something quiet, or just being still. That kind of uninterrupted quiet is increasingly rare. The cabin is private. There’s no performance required.
Afterwards, most people take a few minutes before heading back out. You’ll want to rehydrate, and you may find you feel a particular kind of calm that takes a little while to wear off.
What clients at Bayside tell us they notice
We’re careful with outcome language here, because results are individual. What one person experiences after a session may be different from what another does. With that said, here is what clients at our clinic commonly report:
- A noticeable sense of physical relaxation that carries into the evening
- Reduced muscle tension, particularly after physical activity or periods of sustained stress
- A feeling of being settled and less wound-up
- Improved quality of sleep on the nights following a session
- Skin that feels warmer and has a temporary glow after sweating
As with any treatment, results vary depending on individual factors: your starting point, how frequently you come in, your overall health, and what else is going on in your life at the time. We don’t make promises. We do pay attention to what our clients tell us.
Who tends to get the most from it
The Infra-Red Sauna at Bayside Endermologie is open to everyone. Clients come in for different reasons. Some for the physical release after training, some for the mental reset during a stressful period, some as part of a broader wellness routine that includes LPG Endermologie or other treatments.
People who often find infrared sauna particularly useful:
- Those who train regularly and want support for muscle recovery
- People carrying physical tension from desk work or long hours
- Clients looking for a low-impact wellness practice they can sustain
- Anyone who has tried traditional saunas and found the heat too intense
There is no standard client here. Kristina sees people across a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and goals. The treatment is gender-inclusive and the space is designed to be comfortable for everyone.
A note on who should check with their GP first
Infrared sauna is not appropriate for everyone, and we want to be straightforward about that.
We recommend speaking with your GP before booking if you are:
- Pregnant
- Managing a cardiovascular condition or high blood pressure
- Taking medications that affect your response to heat or your ability to perspire
- Recovering from a recent illness, surgery, or injury
- Living with a condition that affects circulation or sensation
If you’re unsure whether infrared sauna is right for you, please speak with your doctor before your first session. We’d rather you take that step than push through something that isn’t suitable. When you book a consultation with Kristina, she’ll ask a few questions about your health history as part of that conversation too.
How infrared sauna fits into a broader wellness routine
Many clients at Bayside Endermologie combine the Infra-Red Sauna with other treatments. It sits naturally alongside LPG Endermologie sessions, or as a standalone wind-down practice between other appointments. Kristina can help you think through what makes sense for your goals — that conversation is part of what the initial consultation is for.
There’s no pressure to build a complicated routine. Some clients come in for one treatment and find that’s enough. Others build a rhythm over months. Both are fine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is an infrared sauna session?
Sessions at Bayside Endermologie are typically 30–45 minutes. The duration can be adjusted based on how you’re feeling and whether it’s your first session. New clients often start with a shorter session to gauge how their body responds.
What’s the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?
A traditional sauna heats the air around you to very high temperatures (often 80–100°C), which then heats your body from the outside. An infrared sauna uses infrared light to directly warm your body at a much lower air temperature (typically 45–60°C), which many people find more tolerable. The penetration depth of infrared heat is also greater than surface heat from hot air.
How often should I use the infrared sauna?
For general wellness, 2–3 sessions per week is a common starting point. Some clients come more frequently; others use it once a week as part of a broader routine. Kristina can advise on what makes sense given your health history and goals.
Is infrared sauna safe during pregnancy?
No — infrared sauna is not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or think you may be, please let us know before booking. There are also some medical conditions that warrant checking with your GP first; see the notes in this article on who should seek clearance before use.
